CLASS 7 - YOUTH DOMESTIC SCIENCE

Boys and girls, Age 17 & under

There is no registration fee
Judged on looks, creativity and taste

Prizes - 1st $5.00, 2nd $3.00, 3rd $2.00

1. Decorated cake - 9” square. Decorations must be  80% edible. Use the theme “Coldwater   Centennial”

2. Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins - 3 displayed on a  plate, placed in a ziploc bag

3. Tomato Soup Cake -  5 pieces - display on a plate,  placed in a Ziploc bag.  Follow the recipe below:
  
  ½ cup margarine                                                       ½ tsp ground cloves
  1 cup sugar                                                                ½ tsp salt
  1 large egg                                                                 1 cup raisins
  1 ½ cups all purpose flour                                      ¾ cup walnuts
  ½ tsp cinnamon                                                        1 tsp baking soda                                                                      
   ½ nutmeg                                                                    2 tsp hot water
  1 can condensed tomato soup
   
 Cream margarine & sugar together. Add egg &  beat well.  In a separate bowl, mix dry ingredients  together.  In another small bowl put baking soda  and water.  Mix well. Add tomato soup to egg  mixture, mix well. Slowly add dry mixture blend  until smooth. Add baking soda mixture, mix well.   Grease a 9” x 13” pan.  Pour batter in pan.  Bake  in preheated 325* oven for 35 minutes

4. Hermit Cookies - 5 cookies displayed on plate,  placed in Ziploc bag

5. Caramel Popcorn Balls - 3 wrapped in plastic

6. Date & Nut Loaf - displayed on plate, placed in  Ziploc bag

7. Sponge Toffee - 5 pieces, displayed on place,  placed in Ziploc bag.  Recipe below:

  1 cup granulated sugar                         1 cup corn syrup                                                                                               1 tablespoon white vinegar                     1 tablespoon baking soda

 Grease 9” x 13” pan. Set aside. Put sugar, corn  syrup and vinegar in pot.  Heat and stir on  medium heat until sugar dissolves and mixture  starts to boil.  Boil without stirring until mixture  reaches soft crack stage (this is when small  spoonful dropped in cold water separates into  strands). Remove from heat. Sieve baking soda  over mixture, stir immediately just enough to  mix. Don’t over stir. Pour mixture into prepared  pan.  DO NOT spread around - allow mixture to  set on its own. Cool completely.  Break into  pieces.  

8. Chocolate Chip Cookies (open to ages 10-15) must  only be 8 cookies (displayed on a firm, disposable  plate and covered with plastic). Cookies must be  no smaller than 2” in diameter and no larger than  3” in diameter. Cookies will be judged according  to the Homecraft Judging Standards established by  the OAAS. The WINNER from our Fair will be  ELIGIBLE TO ENTER IN THE OAAS  DISTRICT COMPETITION.
