HOMECRAFT CLASS

Members of the committee will NOT be responsible for lost, stolen or damaged articles.

Rules -

1. Observe all the general rules & regulations for indoor exhibits and obtain exhibitor’s card and exhibitor number.

2. Check that each of your items is listed and readable on all three copies of your Exhibitor’s Sheet. Exhibit Tags may be picked up before the fair (see General Rules & Regulations) so that they are available to put on your exhibits before you bring them to the arena.

3. All exhibits in competition in these classes MUST BE THE WORK OF THE EXHIBITOR and MUST HAVE BEEN COMPLETED SINCE THE LAST FAIR. Exhibits must be NEW, clean, dry and odour free. No identifying names are to be visible except on the Exhibitor Tag. No "choking hazards on baby’s items" (i.e. no ribbons, no ties, no buttons, no big loops).

4. Enter only ONE entry per section. ONE exhibitor can win only ONE prize in ONE section. (You cannot compete against yourself). Be sure that your items are entered in the proper section. Exhibitor may NOT enter duplicate items.

5. Exhibits must be placed in the proper arena area from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm Thursday and remain in place until 4:00 pm Sunday.

6. On the Sunday at 3:45 pm, the Homecraft area will be cleared of spectators. Exhibitors are to line up at the north-west entrance to the ice surface area, with their boxes, etc. and their pink Exhibitor Sheet. At 4:00 pm, a volunteer will be available to assist each exhibitor in turn to find and carry exhibits and check and sign his/her Exhibit Sheet.THE ONTARIO ASSOCIATION OF AGRICULTURAL SOCIETIES

ANNUAL CHAMPIONSHIP QUILT COMPETITION

ELIGIBILITY, RULES AND REGULATIONS

GENERAL CONDITIONS

A. Entries must be solely made and hand quilted by the exhibitor and exhibited and judged at a local Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies (OAAS) Fair to be eligible for this competition.

B. Entry quilts must be a minimum of 72"x 90" (smaller quilts will not be eligible to proceed to the next levels of competition).

C. Judging will occur at local fairs and district levels. A Provincial Grand Champion Quilt will be selected at the annual OAAS Convention.

D. Upon making an entry into the OAAS Quilt Competition, the Exhibitor agrees to participate in any promotional activities related to the Competition.

E. The winning OAAS Champion Quilt will not be eligible to compete in any further District and/or Convention OAAS competition.

F. The winner’s name and pattern to be displayed at the fair on sign provided by OAAS.

LOCAL FAIR COMPETITIONS

1. Each local fair is entitled to send only the GRAND CHAMPION QUILT, (minimum 72" x 90") judged the best of show of all eligible hand quilted quilts to the District Competition) OR                                                     If any entry wins GRAND CHAMPION or BEST OF ALL ELIGIBLE QUILTS at more than one Fair, the other Fairs at which this quilt was entered and won, should enter their RESERVE CHAMPION or SECOND BEST OF SHOW OF ALL CLASSES quilt in the District Competition.                                                            NOTE: If an Exhibitor wins GRAND CHAMPION or BEST of SHOW of ALL ELIGIBLE quilts at other than his/her own fair, or at more than one Fair, the Exhibitor must consider the Agricultural Society nearest his/her home address as the one from which the quilt will be sent to the District meeting.

2. An Exhibitor who wins more than one Best of Show title with a different quilt at different Fairs shall be entitled to enter each winning quilt to compete at the District Competition.

3. Local Homecraft Divisions are requested to judge a GRAND CHAMPION or BEST OF SHOW of all ELIGIBLE quilts. As well as RESERVE Grand Champion or SECOND Best of Show of all ELIGIBLE quilts.

The GRAND CHAMPION and the RESERVE GRAND CHAMPION are judged from all first and second prize ELIGIBLE quilts.

ELIGIBILITY, RULES AND REGULATIONS

General Conditions

A. Entries must be solely made and machine quilted by the exhibitor and exhibited and judged at a local Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies (OAAS) Fair to be eligible for this competition.

B. Entries must be a minimum of 48"x 48" measured on the perimeter (total perimeter measurement to be 192" or 480cm). Note the article can be square, rectangular, etc.

C. Judging will occur at local fairs and district levels. A Provincial Grand Champion Machine Quilted Article will be selected at the annual OAAS Convention.

D. Upon making an entry into the OAAS Machine Quilting Competition, the Exhibitor agrees to participate in any promotional activities related to the Competition.

E. The winning OAAS Champion Machine Quilted Article will not be eligible to compete in any further District and/or OAAS Provincial competition.

F. The winner’s name and pattern to be displayed at the fair on sign provided by OAAS.

G. The entry must not be quilted using a long arm machine and must be machine quilted by the Exhibitor.

H. Article must have visible machine quilting.LOCAL FAIR COMPETITIONS

1. Each local fair is entitled to send only one GRAND CHAMPION MACHINE-QUILTED Article, judged best of show of all eligible machine quilted articles to the District Competition OR                                                      If any entry wins GRAND CHAMPION or BEST OF SHOW OF ALL ELIGIBLE MACHINE-QUILTED Articles at more than one Fair, the other Fairs at which this item was entered and won, should enter their RESERVE CHAMPION or SECOND BEST OF SHOW of eligible Machine-Quilted Articles in the District Competition.                                                                                                                                                                  NOTE: If an Exhibitor wins GRAND CHAMPION or BEST of SHOW of all eligible Machine-Quilting classes at other than his/her own fair, or at more than one Fair, the Exhibitor must consider the Agricultural Society nearest their home address as the one from which the item will be sent to the District competition.

2. An Exhibitor who wins more than one Best of Show title with a different machine-quilted article at different Fairs shall be entitled to enter each winning article to compete at the District Competition.

CLASS 10A - QUILTS: Sections 1 - 10

Please bring quilts to upstairs hall for judging. A "Quilt" consists of 3 layers of material stitched together: a top layer, a soft filler layer and a backing layer. PLEASE turn up approximately 12" at the bottom right corner of the hanging quilt to show the backing, and attach Exhibitor tag in this triangle with a safety pin. Names must be covered. DETAILS COUNT: Be sure to remove all pencil/chalk marks, have no knots showing, measure to check for proper size, seam allowances trimmed and pressed toward the darker colour etc. Quilts may have been made by a Group (unless stated otherwise), but if so, must be entered under the Name of the Group with a CONTACT Name & Address of one member of the Group. Please study the above RULES of the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies (OAAS) Quilt Competitions for section 1 to 4 & 7. If your quilt is eligible for the OAAS Quilt Competition, please print the name of Quilt Pattern Design on the back of the Exhibitor Tag and also mark "OAAS Yes" or "OAAS No" to indicate whether or not you wish to enter this competition.

Prizes - 1st $20.00, 2nd $15.00, 3rd $10.00

Best In Show Quilt wins an extra $5.00 in memory of Evelyn Silk donated by her family.

Special Rules for Sections 1-4: Quilts MUST be hand quilted & MUST be at LEAST double bed size,      72" x 90"

6. Quilt, "Centennial of Coldwater Village" or Pioneer Theme, tied, may use recycled material at 72" x 90"

7. Quilt Machine Quilted Article, minimum perimeter measurement to be 192" or 480cm (can be square, rectangular, etc). This article is eligible to enter the OAAS Machine Quilting Competition IF it is solely made and machine quilted by the Exhibitor, and must NOT be quilted using a long arm machine. The article must have visible machine quilting. (See OAAS Rules)

8. Quilt, OPEN CLASS, smaller than 72" x 90", name technique

Sections 9 - 10 - Prizes: 1st $9.00, 2nd $7.00, 3rd $5.00

(1st = 3 pts., 2nd = 2 pts., 3rd - 1 pt.). Please use safety pin, elastic or tie to attach name tag. Do NOT enter machine knitted items here. "Boxed" means displayed in a suitable sized box to keep pieces together, with no lid. Names must be covered.

35. COMMUNITY SERVICE SPECIAL - Hand Knitted Socks or Slippers or Lap Afghan to be collected by the Directors at the close of the Fair, and donated to the "Best Lifestyle Residence" in Coldwater. Prizes as above, and each additional entry will receive $2. $10 prize money will be donated by Andrew Foster, Manager of the "Best Lifestyle Residence", Coldwater

CLASS 10C - CROCHET - Phyllis Popejoy Memorial Crochet Award - High Points for sections 36-60      (1st = 3 pts., 2nd = 2 pts., 3rd - 1 pt.). Please use safety pin, elastic, or tie to attach name tag. "Boxed" means displayed in a suitable sized box to keep pieces together with no lid.
